Hitman is a stealth game and the sixth mainline entry in the Hitman franchise, serving as the first installment of the World of Assassination trilogy. Players control the genetically engineered assassin Agent 47 from a third-person perspective as he carries out contract killings across large, open-ended sandbox levels set in locations around the globe including Paris, Italy, Morocco, Bangkok, Colorado, and Japan. Each level presents numerous approaches to eliminating targets, from disguises and environmental manipulation to staged accidents and direct confrontation. The game features a classless system where players unlock new tools, starting locations, and gear by completing challenges. Originally released episodically, the game was later delisted from standalone sale in 2023 when IO Interactive consolidated the trilogy under a single package titled Hitman: World of Assassination.

Handlung

Im Jahr 1999 wird ein namenloser Mann von der International Contract Agency rekrutiert und beweist außergewöhnliche Fähigkeiten als Attentäter. Seine Betreuerin Diana Burnwood hilft ihm, eine manipulierte Abschlussbeurteilung zu bestehen, und der Mann, der jetzt einfach „47“ genannt wird, beginnt seine Karriere als Auftragsmörder. Zwanzig Jahre später verübt 47 eine Reihe aufsehenerregender Attentate, die zunächst scheinbar keinen Zusammenhang zueinander haben. Diana findet nach und nach heraus, dass eine unbekannte Person namens „Shadow Client“ diese Verträge heimlich ausgehandelt hat, um Providence anzugreifen, eine geheime Organisation mit verstecktem Einfluss auf globale Angelegenheiten. Der Schattenkunde nutzt die ICA und 47 als unwissentliche Instrumente, um seine eigene Beteiligung zu verbergen und gleichzeitig die Agentur als verantwortlich für die Angriffe auf die Mitarbeiter von Providence erscheinen zu lassen.
