Addict Gaming Prediction: Announcements; Releases of 2009

Assassins Creed 2**

With Prince of Persia officially Gold and hitting stores in December, we expect either production or maybe even development is well under way with a new Assassins Creed title. Jade Raymond confirmed that there’s more Assassins Creed planned, and we feel confident in saying that 2009 will either contain an announcement or a release for Assassins Creed 2.

Peter Jackson Halo Project****

Announced back in 2006, the Peter Jackson Halo “Chronicles” project has been shrouded in mystery, only being mentioned occasionally at press conferences. All we know so far is that it’s a form of interactive entertainment that won’t appeal to Hardcore gamers, and aims to change the way we think about games. With 2009 approaching fast, it will soon be three years since the initial announcement; so we expect a major announcement to be made on this game.

Call of Duty 6 [Rumored to be Future Warfare]****

It’s a well known fact that Infinity Ward & Treyarch alternate between titles in order for a yearly release. An Activision CEO let slip that Infinity Ward are hard at work on the latest Call of Duty title, which will of course be announced in Early 2009, releasing in the fall. It has also been rumoured that we’ll be going into future warfare this time, instead of staying back in WWII.

Rock Band 3 / Guitar Hero World Tour 2****

A pair of yearly releases here for Activision & EA. We already know that we’ll be provided with a Guitar Hero Metallica instalment next year, but we’re also expecting a release of World Tour 2 in order to compete with EA’s yearly Rock Band franchise. We imagine that Rock Band 3 will contain some form of Music Composer, however we have been told if they’re going to move in that direction – they’re going to do it right.

New Ghost Recon ****

We haven’t seen a Ghost Recon title for some time, so it would be wise to put money on seeing an announcement or possibly even a release in 2009. Who knows if we’re going to stay with Advanced Warfighter, but we’re pretty confident that Ubisoft will want to cash in on the Ghost Recon IP, especially with the loyal fanbase the title has.

Call of Duty: World at War DLC****

With the game releasing just last week, we can tell this will be among the top played multiplayer games this year. Since the reception has been better than that of Call of Duty 3, Treyarch should feel more inclined to work on a Map Pack for the title. Our guess it will most likely arrive in May / June in an attempt to ramp up more interest.

Forza Motorsport 3****

With Forza 2 being a few years behind us now, Turn 10 is expected to either release Project Gotham 5 or Forza 3 sometime this year. With Microsoft holding a solid poker face with regards to next year’s line-up, we imagine either IP could be part of their hand. Turn 10 have been confirmed to have a few projects underway, we would put money both of them being PGR 5 & Forza 3.

New Need for Speed Title****

Another of EA’s yearly releases is Need for Speed, an IP that has remained strong throughout the years, always coming back better each year. It’s hard to predict what direction they’ll take this year, but we’ll imagine it will be something with Girls, Police & lots of street racing carnage.

New Battlefield Title Announcement****

An EA rep slipped up earlier this year, mentioning that a Battlefield Bad Company sequel could well be in the works. With the community reacting the way they did to the new Battlefield IP that released earlier this year, we’re pretty sure we’ll be seeing an announcement this year. Possibly not for Bad Company 2, as 5 Battlefield titles are currently in development at DICE, but either way – we’re pretty confident there will be a Battlefield announcement.

New Rainbow Six **

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 released earlier this year, which was criticised as being more of an update than a new game. It has been confirmed that Vegas 2 was the last we’ll see of the Vegas direction the IP took, so we’re guessing we’ll see an announcement this year about a new Rainbow Six title.
